Annette Obrestad: A Rising Superstar Among the Women in Poker

Female superstars in poker are not born but are made. Years of constant practice and dedication to the game can transform these ordinary women into very skilled players. The players who truly dominate the tough competition are those who have spent their time practicing and improving their skills on the game.

Annette Obrestad is undoubtedly one of the up-and-coming players in the world of poker. Her very young career is just blossoming and it seems that there is no stopping her from becoming one of the most dominant women in poker. Despite learning the game for just a couple of years, she is slowly becoming a very unstoppable force in the game.

The humble beginnings of Obrestad can be traced back to Sandnes in Rogaland, Norway. She had a major breakthrough after an impressive 37th place finish at the Aruba Classic 2006 in a No Limit Hold'em Championship event. After that tournament, she took home a decent $12,415 prize which is not bad for a very young starter like her. She is only 19 years old and she has already taken the world of poker by storm.

All in all, Obrestad has total winnings in poker amounting to $2,303,408. Her impressive professional career record includes a single first place finish. She has also won a gold bracelet in one of the events of the World Series of Poker. These major accomplishments would surely put her name amongst some of the best in the game.

The name of Obrestad now goes with the likes of Kathy Liebert, Jennifer Harman Traniello, Joanne Liu and Annie Duke. These excellent women have already racked up more than a million dollars individually. What is more impressive is that she had already surpassed some of these women. She now ranks higher than Harman Traniello, Liu and Duke.

Obrestad has a very good year in 2007 in the international poker scene. She started it out with a fifth place finish at the No Limit Hold'em event of the European Poker Tour in March, winning a total of $20,747. She immediately followed it up with another stellar performance at the PaddyPower Irish Open a month later, finishing a solid 13th place at the Pot Limit Omaha event.

Obrestad's performance shows how fast her skills are developing. At the end of August 2007, she made another impressive run at the European Poker Tour. She placed 18th at the Pot Limit Omaha event of the Barcelona Open. A month later came her greatest achievement so far, winning the No Limit Hold'em Championship of the World Series of Poker Europe.

This major victory gave Obrestad an additional $1,874,700, proving the fact that she is indeed one of the rising superstars among the other women in poker. Her latest attempt at another international poker tournament was at the European Poker Tour Dublin, where she posted a very strong 2nd place finish at a No Limit Hold'em event.
